Stretch marks or atrophy marks are streaks that appear on the skin. These stretch marks are formed by the breakdown of collagen in and elastin in the skin that cause the marks to form. Typically, stretch marks occur in the abdomen and the thighs. In adolescents, stretch marks can also be found in the medial thighs, buttocks, back, and waist due to accelerated growth. Other causes of stretch mark include pregnancy, obesity and weight loss.
The marks can be treated to bring back the appearance of smooth and even skin texture.
